What’s Up With ProgPoW? Benchmarks & Addressing the Criticisms

ProgPoW is a new algorithm that was proposed to replace Ethash and therefore make Ethereum ASIC-resistant. The idea is being debated since August 2018 and apparently, we are coming to the point when we as a community have to make the final decision – do we want ProgPoW to be implemented or not? The idea was also discussed during January 4 ETH Core devs meeting and it seems that the majority of the community and the developers team members are leaning towards the adoption of this new algorithm. In this post, I will briefly go over what ProgPoW is and then will address the criticism this idea is being receiving. Again, as a community, it’s our duty to be aware of what is going on and to actively…

Why Every Bitcoin Miner Needs A VPN

The need for a VPN has shot up over the past few years. As we get closer and closer to living our entire lives online, our data becomes ever more vulnerable. We put everything out there when using the internet, from our credit card details to our personal identification. It’s no wonder that identity theft has become a common occurrence. Identity theft can be devastating. Not only do victims of identity theft lose masses of money. They also compromise their entire reputation. Getting credit or even a job in future becomes problematic because of misdeeds committed under their name. However, many people engaged in bitcoin mining aren’t convinced of the need for a VPN. Blockchain is indeed very secure and seems to offer the protection of encryption …

1stMiningRig is Back and Kicking! – Plans for the Future + I Need Your Input!

First of all, let me apologize to you, my most loyal followers, for vanishing without prior notice. You guys have been following me for years and your feedback and support is what made this blog become bigger than I ever thought it would. Why the Break? Sadly, life gets on the way sometimes and those past months I honestly had neither the time or the willpower to keep posting content. You’ve heard that right. I didn’t leave because of the cryptocurrency market situation, or anything like that. In fact, it’s in the times of change when people seek advice and look for information the most. Wish I were there helping the mining community but I wasn’t. During the break, I was still quietly mining and upgrading my…

Don’t Panic: Bitcoin’s ‘Plunging Supply’ Is a Feature – Not a Bug

Bitcoin presents a common-sense notion that’s surprisingly radical to many fully-grown adults: Once it’s gone, you can’t have any more of it. As commodities go, it acts more like a rare metal than a technology – hence its comparison to gold. It Doesn’t Matter If We’ve Mined 99{520ebc7d04367f10067c097a94259816cd1e6df76ec40212834858ca2e1af940} of the Bitcoin Supply The Sun posted […] The post Don't Panic: Bitcoin's 'Plunging Supply' Is a Feature – Not a Bug appeared first on CCN Markets

How Many Bitcoin Forks Are There And Should You Care About Them

For a lot of people there is only Bitcoin (BTC) and a couple of other popular forks for Bitcoin such as Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin SV or Bitcoin Gold, but in reality there are much more than just these. According to a website called Forkdrop that is tracking the available Bitcoin, as well as some altcoin forks, the number is quite big already – there are 105 Bitcoin fork projects in total, though not all of them are active or operational yet. Of those 105 in total, 74 are considered active projects relevant to holders of Bitcoin (BTC) and the remaining 31 are considered historic and are no longer relevant. Furthermore of the 74 active Bitcoin fork projects 45 projects have a currently-operating blockchain network capable of transacting and 29 projects do not have…

Claymore’s Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v15.0

As both Ethereum (ETH) and Ethereum Classic (ETC) are getting close to Epoch 299 (the currently supported one by the previous Claymore miners) Claymore has released an updated miner for Ethash with the new version 15.0 supporting up to Epoch 384. If you don’t know the Epoch 384 will mark the limit for the GPUs with 4GB video memory meaning that they will not be able to mine Ether anymore. Currently Ethereum Classic is at Epoch #289 or slightly ahead of Ethereum which is at Epoch #281, so make sure you update your Claymore miner before reaching #299 if you are mining any of these Ethers. Reaching Epoch #384 is probably going to happen near the end of 2020 and the next 6GB Epoch is probably going to be reached sometime…

Pat Gelsinger is the latest skeptic in a long line of bitcoin haters to step up to the plate and take aim at the flagship cryptocurrency. Mining Conceal (CCX) with CryptoNightConceal on Nvidia GPUs

The Conceal (CCX) project is another attempt at a privacy oriented crypto coin that offers some interesting features one of which is the so called Decentralized Banking with coins getting locked to earn interest. Conceal is based on the Cryptonote protocol and uses the so called CryptoNightConceal algorithm, a variation that is based on CryptoNight and thus is considered to be an “AMD Coin” due to the fact that AMD GPUs usually do perform better in CN algos. With low mining profits and with more people looking into mining other interesting projects however even Nvidia GPU miners are looking into potentially interesting CN-based coins. With the latest CryptoDredge v0.21.0 Nvidia GPU miner support for the CryptoNightConceal algorithm has been added and the performance does not…

Epic Cash (EPIC) Private Internet Cash Based on MimbleWimble

There is a new fork of GRIN based on the MimbleWimble protocol called Epic Cash (EPIC) that has officially launched their blockchain a day or so ago. EPIC can be CPU, GPU, and ASIC-mined with 3 different algorithms available for each type of hardware and block rewards are distributed according to a schedule that balances wide distribution with long-term security. One of the main goals of the project is to offer high level of privacy to the users with a monetary policy very similar to that of Bitcoin (BTC). This includes a maximum supply of 21 million coins and a higher initial emission in order to reach and synchronize with Bitcoin in terms of available coins in a couple of years time frame. The so called Epic…
